About the Event
“The ultimate aim of storytelling must be to strike a solid blow with an axe against the frozen seas within us.”
Kafes brings to the stage the story of a ‘hunger artist’—who has fed on the pain of his relationships for years and sought to sate his hunger with the ready-made emotions of the pop culture into which he was born—and his co-existence with Kafka.
Based on the short story ‘The Hunger Artist’—Franz Kafka’s final work published before his death—this performance explores; centres on the inner world of an artist striving to reveal himself, whilst depicting the way in which people—trapped between the cogs of their era and society, and unable to find their true selves—fade away into the crowd.
In this piece, which he has designed, adapted and performed, Kaan Songün also uses his own compositions to share with the audience—through a musical and physical performance centred on the expression of emotions—the mental cages we create within our minds under the conditions of contemporary society.
