About the event
We are getting together to watch Deniz Göktaş’s performance The Dead Sea and then write letters of solidarity to Deniz.
We didn’t want to hold this gathering either under the Kumpanya logo or under the auspices of any other group or organisation. This is because our aim is not so much to organise an event as it is to simply be together.
We believe that solidarity comes before names, parties and logos. Strength comes from unity. For us migrants, living far from the place we call home, being able to stand side by side, meet in the same hall and say ‘We are here’ both to one another and to Deniz is incredibly valuable.
Sometimes, simply gathering in the same room, laughing together and sharing the same story is a form of solidarity in itself. That is precisely why we are meeting this evening.
After the screening, anyone who wishes to do so will be able to write a letter to Deniz. We will collect the letters and pass them on to her. Those who wish to do so may also write their letters in advance and bring them with them.
Deniz’s humour is ours, and it is meant for us.
In defiance of those who seek to stand in our way, we invite you to laugh, reflect and strengthen our solidarity together.
