About the Event
Sine Kumpanya opens its new season with a film that we believe is important to watch, reflect on and talk about together today: My Child (Benim Çocuğum).
Directed by Can Candan, My Child tells the stories of parents in Turkey whose children are LGBTQ+. The documentary takes us into the homes of five families, following their journeys from the moment their children come out to them, through confronting their own fears and prejudices, towards acceptance, solidarity and standing alongside their children.
Completed in 2013, My Child is a powerful and intimate documentary about family, unconditional love, acceptance, prejudice and standing together.
More than a decade later, and especially in light of what is happening in Turkey today, we wanted to come together to watch My Child once again and talk about it afterwards.
Because sometimes revisiting a film years later means looking not only at the film again, but also at the time and society we are living in.
After the screening, we invite everyone to stay with us. Together, we will talk about the questions the film raises and what it makes us think and feel today.
The post-screening conversation will be moderated and hosted by Banu.
*The film will be screened in Turkish with English subtitles.
